Your ceiling is probably the most ignored wall in your entire home.

Stop ignoring your ceiling and embrace its decorative possibilities.

Consider the following when decorating your ceiling:

Color
Why are all your ceilings basic white?

When in doubt, simply paint your ceilings the same color as your walls, only a bit lighter.

You can also paint them a light khaki color if you want a neutral.

For a bold look, paint your ceiling a metallic color or a really dark color, such as chocolate brown or black.

You can even faux finish or paint a mural on your ceiling.

Wallpaper is not just for walls - consider using it on your ceiling.

Light Fixture
Show off your ceiling with a unique and beautiful light fixture.

Light fixtures not only provide light for a room, they are like jewelry for an outfit, so have fun with it.

You can use a bold chandelier in a room you wish to show off or use a more modest and elegant fixture for a classic understated look.

Most people select a light fixture that is too small for the room, so make sure to be big and bold in your lighting selections.

Don't forget the dimmer switch to be able to set the appropriate mood for different events.

Other Materials
Consider materials other than basic drywall for your ceiling.

You can use pressed tin, wood, wallpaper, metal, fabric, or decorative ceiling tiles.

Most any treatment you can apply to your walls can also be applied to your ceiling.

Architectural Treatments
You can add architectural treatments, such as wood beams, coffering, or a tray to your ceiling.

Decorative moldings, such as crown molding and ceiling medallions above light fixtures are very popular.

If you want a really dramatic ceiling, you can add an LED light display to mimic the night sky.

Be Creative
Your ceiling presents another opportunity to add a designer touch to your home.

Be unique.

Show your creative side.

Don't be boring.
