by Angela Ceccacci
Plants have a manner of warming up your interior and can give your home a nice finished look with a hospitable feeling. With the many varieties available, plants can be a very versatile tool for decorating your home.
Plants do well as room dividers, as well as filling in empty spaces. Perhaps you have an open floor plan and don't want to completely divide the rooms; you can place large plants in these areas. When using plants, you can spread them along shelves, on top of furniture, and along side knick knacks. This helps with giving the eye something restful to look upon.
All rooms in your home can be adorned with plan life. Of course, the living room and dining room are typical places to disperse your greenery. Try putting them in your bedroom on a tall piece of furniture or on the floor, or in the bathroom along side the garden tub or in the window. Kitchens can look great with plants too.
Greenery can be the artwork in a room all by itself. Decorative potted plants mounted to the wall, hung at eye level or staggered on the wall, can be artful. Another way to display plant life as the art work in a room to is hang modular shelving units and place the plants on top of them. Use plant stands like tall slender tables, Chinese wood elevators, or a stack of old suit cases. Also, planter boxes are great for any space in your home.
Know your style of your décor before choosing the plants for your home. For example, Modern and Contemporary styles look best with sleek clean line plants that have long slender shapes. The Victorian décor styling looks best complemented with frilly feminine ferns. Southwestern home décor obviously looks great with cacti. Tropical décors look nice with orchids and anthuriums. Be creative and use any plant that you feel makes you happy with your décor.
There are many types and styles to use in your interior. Live trees are beautiful, but you must know how to care for them. Cut trees and container tree need different care, but always take the same safety precautions when using indoor trees. Never use candles or any other type of open flames near a live tree. Don't place it near or next to the fireplace. Keep the fire extinguisher near by, just in case. A well watered tree is a safe tree for your home.
Another inside plant that works well in your interior is the Bonsai plant. The proper display of your Bonsai can enhance its beauty. If the Bonsai produces fruit and blooms, plant in a coordinating colored pot to match your décor. Bunjin-style Bonsai has a very sculptured look with a very long tall trunk.
Another option to creating a beautiful interior space using greenery is to use faux or artificial plants - no green thumb necessary. Your options become endless as to where to put them in your home. The only care needed for these is little light cleaning. Try buying the best of quality to avoid the look of it even being faux.
