Window Covering Options

One of the most popular form of window coverings is the blind. Most apartments come with the standard metal mini blinds which are very economical. If you have a sliding door, a vertical will pull to the side to allow access through the door.

Many homeowners like the functionality of blinds, but opt for either wood or faux wood for a more traditional upscale look. Real wood blinds come in a multiple wood finishes, however faux wood blinds are most commonly a white tone.

Another option for windows is pleated blinds or cellular shades (cellular shades are like pleated shades, but double thick). These are usually made of fabric, let some light in, but still provide privacy. Many of these shades can open from the top or bottom of your window.

Window shadings, on the other hand, are sheer to provide a nice filtered light into your home, however not much privacy.

Woven woods, such as bamboo and jute have become very popular recently. They were first used primarily in asian motifs, however are now used with most any style.

Roman shades are used for a drapery effect with a shade function.

Roller shades are making a come back. They take up minimal space at the top of windows when fully open, and can have a decorative edge detail and/or fancy pull string.

Shutters are a traditional favorite that can add visual warmth to a room.

Draperies and curtains come in all shapes and sizes. Whether using a window scarf, valance, sheer, or full draperies, the choices and options are limitless, especially when you consider the drapery hardware that is also available.

Be creative! Using multiple types of window coverings together can serve several functions and creates a very unique and stylish appearance.
